Baking Soda – The Best Ingredient To Clean Vintage Silver Jewelry

Silver jewelry oxidize after a period of time, losing their beautiful silvery gloss and shine.

I have a pair of beautiful silver earrings as a heritage from my grandma. They are extremely beautiful with a small and elegant sapphire in the middle, but the silver around the stone is almost blackened. I send them once to the jeweler to clean them, but I was advice to clean them at home with the following solution:

You need:

  • tin foil
  • 2 tablespoons of baking soda
  • 2 liters of water

Put the tin foil on the bottom of the pot, and then add the water. Now put it on the stove at low fire, and when it starts to boil add the baking soda, stir a bit to dissolve it, and then add the silver jewelry. Leave it for a few minutes until you observe that they regain their gloss.

Tip: if you want to delay the oxidizing process, apply a transparent nail polish over it.
