How to get rid of bad odor inside the washing machine

When the washing machine is new, the clothes are clean and have a fresh scent that lasts longer. But as time goes on, an unpleasant odor occurs inside the tank. There are several ways to remove the bad smell inside the washing machine. Here they are:

1. Select the washing cycle that uses hot water

Lately, big companies have created detergents able to clean clothes at low temperatures, but you should know that the constant use of programs that clean at low temperatures leads to bacterial growth inside the tank.

Bacteria is responsible for producing bad odor inside the washer. If you have clothes that bear hot water use the high temperature program to kill bacteria inside the tank.

2. Always keep the door open

Moisture inside the washing machine favors unpleasant odors. So, you should leave the door open after each wash.

3. Use less balm

Balm is ideal for scenting laundry items, however, used regularly, it leaves residues, which foster bad odors. Even if you’re using conditioner on every wash, if you reduce the number of uses, you can prevent unpleasant odors.

4. Clean the detergent and fabric softener compartments

At least once a month, it’s advisable to remove the detergent and conditioner compartments and wash them with hot water. Detergent and conditioner residues smell unpleasant, so it’s advisable to wash the compartments often.

5. Clean the washing machine with backing soda

Also, once a month, it’s better to use a cleaning treatment for your washing machine. Leaving the vat empty, add 2 tablespoons of baking soda in the detergent compartment and set the program with the highest temperature. Let the machine wash with the inner drum empty, because baking soda will destroy the bacteria.
